Ākonga who enjoy designing and making things should enrol in this subject. Technology ākonga can choose to work in food technology, hard materials or fashion/textiles technology. Ākonga use the design process and develop their technological skills in areas that interest them. Technology encourages ākonga to think creatively and design practical solutions to problems they have identified. Ākonga are expected to work with people and with resources in their community so that their projects are meaningful and authentic.
This course offers ākonga a variety of exciting learning opportunities to explore, design and create solutions to authentic practical problems. Ākonga develop their technological practice by a pick and mix of topics from any technological area, using a range of materials.
Topics are based on ākonga interests and help them develop practical technological skills in design and construction. Wider issues such as sustainability and the impact of technology on the environment and society are introduced.
