What is Physical Education?

In Physical Education ākonga consider factors affecting physical performances and work towards promoting physical activity in their communities. Ākonga can engage in a variety of physical activities as well as explore the body systems, training programmes and how to improve performances for themselves and others. Physical Education can be studied at tertiary level as a science or humanities subject. It leads to a wide variety of careers in tourism, sports science, community and health sectors.

What this course involves

Physical Education develops the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and cultural capabilities of ākonga. It is strongly based on the passions and interests of the learner. Ākonga will learn how movement affects them, those around them, and their wider communities. They will also understand tikanga as it relates to movement.
